What a great way to kick off 2016!

Happy New Year, Everyone!

DSC_0546.JPGFor those who did not make it out for our New Year celebrations, you missed a great time. The Ring of Fire & Hope was a beautiful sight to see. It was a chilly but clear gorgeous night, perfect for the evenings festivities. DSC_0531.JPGWe ran out of flares in just 45 minutes! As always, we would like to give a big shout to Windermere Realtor and Birch Bay Chamber Director, Mike Kent for his generous donation of $500 which allows us to purchase the flares for distribution to the Birch Bay community.

The following morning, we were out bright and early getting ready for the 33rd Annual Birch Bay Polar Bear Plunge. Again, the weather cooperated nicely and although chilly, it was a beautiful day. 323 Plungers registered to take the plunge News Years Day, and Hundreds came out to witness the event. DSC_0589Thank you to Lynn Roberts, of KISM Radio for being a fabulous Emcee for the Costume Contest. Brrr the Bear was on-site also helping out with the Costume Contest. Thank you to Ken Lord for hopping in that bear suit year after year. DSC_0588.JPG

We had some fabulous costumes entries this year in all 4 categories. Our Costume Contest winners were:  Best Group: The Avengers, Best Individual: Olaf from Frozen, Best Child: Luigi from Mario Bros., Most Unique: Beast Mode.

We would like to say Thank you to our friends at The C Shop for giving out yummy white chocolate bear lollipops to all of the kids again this year. Thank you to The Will’O Pub for coming out and providing hot chocolate and other yummy things to help keep everyone warm. Thank you to The Shores Restaurant, The Beach at Birch Bay, and The Will’O Pub for the Gift Certificates for our Costume Winners. Also, a big thank you to Whatcom County Sheriffs Department and North Whatcom Fire & Rescue for your assistance with this event. Last, but certainly not least we need to give a HUGE shout out to all of our amazing volunteers. We could not put on these events without the selfless dedication of all of our Volunteers as well, as your Birch Bay Chamber Board of Directors. Thank you to everyone who helped, and to all of our participants. We have an awesome community!
