The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are very pleased to announce that Tutor Doctor is the August Member of the Month. Don and Leslee Gongaware, both well-credentialed in academics, have begun a great outreach to the Blaine and Birch Bay communities that help kids and adults reach their educational goals. Their students have ranged in age from three to 82 years old and cover early childhood learning strategies through university level. The Tutor Doctor staff includes their family as well.
In making the announcement, Chamber President Dave Hiller said “Don and Leslee are quite exemplary of civic-minded people that seek not just to expose others to their business but to really be significantly involved and uplift events that bring a community together.” Their favorite festival is the Sand Sculpture Contest. They sponsored this event, set up a creative booth and also participated in building a sand sculpture that came in Third Place in the business category. Similarly at Discovery Days they had a booth with children’s activities at the art and crafts fair and also a fun parade entry. Don has served on the Wings Over Water Northwest Birding festival committee and sponsored the school essay and poster board competition. He has served on the Let’s Move Blaine committee and has been very supportive of and hosted display at Northwest Park & recreation events.
