Canada 6, USA 0 or will it be USA 12, Canada 0 – or ??? With the National Hockey League lockout still unresolved, the 1st Annual International Broom Hockey Tournament may just be the hockey event of the year for the United States and Canada. Held January 1st, 2013 at 1:00 PM, at the Birch Bay Waterslides (4874 Birch Bay Lynden Road, Blaine, WA), this event is a great family friendly event held in Birch Bay.
This event is being held at the suggestion of the Northwest Park and Recreation District 2, in conjunction with the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce as an additional activity to the world famous Birch Bay Polar Bear Swim, which will be held at 11:00 on January 1st. According to Heidi Holmes, “We wanted to provide an activity for local people to attend, something fun to do after the Plunge, it’s an opportunity to create community spirit and hopefully, as it grows over the years, we’ll have more teams and something else for people to enjoy on New Year’s Day.”
Each team will be made up of at least 6 players, and they will compete in three 15-minute periods with the winner taking home the honor for their country. Participants who would like to watch this event, the Birch Bay Waterslides will be opening their doors so people can get out of the rain (if any), get warm, and have a cup of hot chocolate. This 1st Annual International Broom Hockey Tournament is the capstone to the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce “Ring of Fire and Hope” and “Polar Bear Swim.” For more information, please contact the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce or the Northwest Park and Recreation District 2.
Everyone will have a chance to win a free seasons pass to the Birch Bay Waterslides just for attending!
